Senator Imee Marcos prayed for a speedy resolution to the anomalies surrounding government infrastructure projects and for those who are involved in corruption to be immediately jailed and prosecuted.

Marcos made the statement when she delivered her opening prayer on Tuesday, January 27 during the opening of the Senate plenary session at 3 p.m.

“Panginoon, gawin mo pong malaking bangka ang Senado. Arko ng bawat Pilipino. Isang bangkang may matibay na pundasyon at tiyak na direksyon. Katapatan sa bayan at mabilis na pagkilos sa katarungan. Hindi makakausad ang bansa kung hindi tatapusin ang mga pagdinig kahit may ayaw marinig (Lord, make the Senate a big boat. The ark of every Filipino. A boat with a solid foundation and a certain direction. Loyalty to the people and swift action in justice. The country cannot move forward if the hearings are not complete even if some do not want to hear them),” Marcos said in her prayer.

“Ikulong na kasi ang mga dapat ikulong, dahil ito lamang ang papawi sa galit ng taumbayan. Pagtibayin niyo po ang demokrasya at hayaang magsalita ang bawat mamamayan, bawat senador. Dahil ang kapangyarihang bigay ninyo at ng bayan ay pantay-pantay at walang mas nakakataas (Lock up those who should be locked up, because this is the only way to quell the anger of the people. Strengthen democracy and let every citizen, every senator, speak out. Because the power given to you and the people is equal and no one is superior),” Marcos said.

In her prayer, Marcos also asked God to give the Senate understanding on the need to expedite resolutions aimed at solving the country’s deep-rooted problems faster.

“At Panginoon, ang kahit anong bangka ay lulubog kung kami mismo ang bubutas nito. Nawa'y pangalagaan namin ang isa't isa (And Lord, any boat will sink if we ourselves make a hole in it. May we take care of each other),” she said.

“Bilang isang buong institusyon, proteksyunan at hindi ipagkanulo, bigyan ng pagkakataon at huwag busalan. Magkakaiba man ang layag ay iisa lamang ang direksyon ng pagsagwan na mapunta ang bayan sa inyong mapagpalang gabay (As an entire institution, protect and not betray, give opportunities and not gag. Even though the sails are different, the direction of rowing is the same, which is to bring the nation to your blessed guidance),” she stressed.

A member of the Senate minority bloc, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s sister earlier criticized the slow pace of the flood control probe, questioning why no major officials have been jailed months after the investigation began.

She also expressed disappointment that only small fish—contractors and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials—are being held accountable, while top politicians who are allegedly involved, remain untouched.

Marcos especially mentioned her cousin, former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, whom she believes got millions of kickbacks from major infrastructure projects.
