On January 24 to 25, 2026, Ambassador Endo Kazuya of Japan, together with Madame Endo Akiko, paid a significant visit to Iloilo City, strengthening ties between Japan and the Philippines through cultural and diplomatic engagements.
During their two-day stay, Ambassador Endo and Madame Akiko met with Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas for an exchange of views on local governance and opportunities for deeper collaboration. Their visit coincided with the vibrant Dinagyang Festival, one of the country’s most anticipated cultural celebrations, which draws national leaders, foreign dignitaries, and thousands of visitors each year.
In addition to participating in the festivities, Ambassador Endo held substantive discussions with former Senate President Franklin Drilon and other distinguished guests of the festival. These dialogues underscored the shared commitment of Iloilo and Japan to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as cultural exchange, economic development, and people-to-people ties.
