SIX teachers are reportedly missing in a sunken ferry in Basilan.
ZAMBOANGA CITY - Six public school teachers are reportedly among those missing in the MV Trisha Kirsten 3 that sank in the sea of Basilan on Sunday.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is hoping that they would be rescued.
DepEd Undersecretary Malcolm Garma during a press conference on Tuesday here confirmed that there were 35 teachers from Sulu who came from a seminar in Zamboanga City and were on their way back to the province when boat capsized.
Garma condoled with the family of Nurunnihar Lee, Silangkan Elementary School head, who is one of the fatalities.
He said DepEd honors her legacy of service and the impact she made through education in Sulu.
Conflicting reports surfaced on the number of missing passengers after the DepEd announced that six teachers are still considered missing after boarding the ill-fated ship.
The Philippine Coast Guard said 10 passengers are considered missing as of Tuesday - the captain, seven crew members, a sea marshal, and an unidentified passenger.
The teachers reported by DepEd are not among the list of missing passengers confirmed by the Philippine Coast Guard.
