Singing sensation Gwyn Dorado donates to charity in Korea, sings 'Blue,' to star in Netflix series
Filipino singing sensation Gwyn Dorado, who placed second on the Korean TV show “Sing Again 4,” made a donation, covered a song by Seventeen’s DxS and will be appearing in a Netflix spin-off series.
Dorado, 21, donated three million won (about P120,509) of her 30 million won (about P1.2 million) prize from “Sing Again 4” to the Community Chest of Korea (CCK), a fundraising organization established in 1998 that allocates funds for welfare programs in South Korea.
She specifically donated to CCK’s Northern Gyeonggi Province Fruit of Love Foundation, becoming the 323rd sharing leader in the region.
Her donation will be used to support vulnerable groups in the Northern Gyeonggi Province.
On Jan. 23, the CCK held a donation ceremony and sharing leader induction ceremony for Dorado.
The ceremony held at the Fruit of Love Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul as attended by Dorado, Fruit of Love Secretary General Hwang In-sik, Gyeonggi Fruit of Love Chairman Kwon In-wook, and Northern Gyeonggi Fruit of Love Headquarters Director Lee Gyeong-ah.
“I never thought I would receive this much support while singing in Korea. I didn’t want to keep that feeling to myself, but I wanted to share the meaning of the stage that made me who I am today,” said Dorado.
Secretary General Hwang In-sik of the Fruit of Love said, “I am deeply grateful that she decided to share the precious fruits of her labor with our society. I hope that the comfort and emotion conveyed on stage will be delivered warmly to our underprivileged neighbors through this donation.”
Sharing Leader is a representative individual donation program operated by Fruit of Love. Membership is granted to individuals who donate 1 million won or more, either one-time or through a contract, within a year.
CCK’s beneficiaries include children and adolescents, elderly, persons with disabilities, women and multicultural families, families in crisis and local communities.
In 2024, CCK raised 847.7 billion won (about $585 million)
Seventeen's DxS’ “Blue”
On Jan. 24, the social media channels of K-pop group Seventeen posted a video of Dorado’s cover of the song “Blue.”
“Blue” is the main track of “Serenade,” the debut mini-album of Seventeen’s new unit DxS, composed of members DK and Seungkwan.
The video showed Dorado singing the parts of DK and Seungkwan.
"She has such a powerful voice it's beautiful," one commented on YouTube
Another wrote, "Dorado, you're my number one pick on Sing Again 4! No matter what ballad you sing, you always elevate it. I miss you so much! Please do a full cover, too."
