Shear line to bring heavy rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Jan. 26 said rainy weather will continue over large parts of the Visayas and northeastern Mindanao due to the shear line, while the northeast monsoon will bring cooler conditions to most of Luzon and the Visayas.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said moderate to heavy rains are expected over Eastern Visayas and northeastern Mindanao as the shear line, a weather system formed by the collision of cold northeasterly winds (amihan) and warm easterly winds from the Pacific Ocean, persists.
He warned that possible flash floods or landslides may occur, particularly over Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Moreover, Aurelio said the northeast monsoon is still bringing cold weather over large parts of the country, especially Luzon and the Visayas.
Cloudy skies with light amihan rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, the rest of the Visayas, the rest of Bicol Region, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said.
Aurelio said the shear line and the northeast monsoon are expected to persist over the next four to five days.
From Tuesday, Jan. 27, to Friday, Jan. 30, the shear line may continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, the Davao Region, Sorsogon, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental.
He advised the public to remain alert against possible flash floods or landslides.
However, Aurelio said PAGASA is not expecting the formation of a low-pressure area during this period.
