Filipino Para Bowlers finally hit their mark at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Sunday, January 25, adding to the medal haul of the Philippines.
Francisco Endaco and Jaime Manginga ruled the Mixed Doubles TPB8+8 Para Bowling competition, edging Thailand 1 with a total combined score of 1,957 compared to the Thais’ 1,953 in six games. Indonesia finished third with a final score of 1,916.
Manginga carried the load in the early goings, rolling scores of 187 and 172 in the first two games to give the Philippines a 25-pin cushion. However, Suphan Sinthusuwan and Supparat Ponmingmad regrouped by the third game, with Manginga and Endaco struggling with low scores in the third and fourth games.
Down 88 pins heading into the fifth game, Manginga and Endaco knew they had to come up with high scores in the remaining two games to overcome the Thais. They did just that, with Manginga and Endaco tallying final scores of 367 and 357 to slip past Thailand 1.
Endaco added a bronze medal in Men’s Singles TPB8. He finished with a total scratch score of 974.
Sinthusuwan of Thailand won the gold with a final tally of 1,104. Rosheedey Fazal Bin Roslan of Malaysia bagged the silver after rolling a 1,024 after six games.
Aside from Manginga and Endaco, the duo of Patrick Eusebio and Kim Ian Chi also struck gold in the Doubles TPB10+10 class.
Eusebio and Chi started slow, finishing with a combined total of 293. However, the two found their line and racked up high scores in the 2nd to 5th frames to distance themselves from Malaysia and Thailand 1.
In the end, Eusebio and Chi finished with a final score of 2,366, well ahead of the final scores of Malaysia (2,202) and Thailand 1 (2,112), handing the Philippines its second gold in the Para Bowling competitions.
