Cainta, Rizal Mayor Kit Nieto has taken an indefinite medical leave starting on Monday, Jan. 26, with Vice Mayor Ace Servillon taking over the reins of the town during the mayor's absence.
In a statement, Nieto said he had been confined in the hospital since Sunday, Jan. 25, after suffering from severe chest pains. An angiogram procedure revealed multiple blocks in all his major arteries.
"He is under close medical monitoring, and his movements have been likewise restricted," his statement read.
"Today, he, alongside his family, will decide on the options laid out for which kind of medical procedure/surgery to be undertaken to address his condition," it added.
Nieto said all his scheduled activities leading to his birthday on Jan. 31 have all been put on hold as he conveyed his good wishes to his constituents and promised to return to work as soon as he gets a clean bill of health from his doctors.
