THE PRO-NIR paid tribute to the SAF-44 on Sunday.
BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) paid tribute to the bravery, patriotism, and ultimate sacrifice of the 44 members of the Special Action Force (SAF) killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao 11 years ago.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, together with the 6th SAF Battalion and other officers and personnel, led the wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the fallen police commandos, who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace, security, and service to the Filipino people.
The solemn observance was held at the PRO-NIR Administrative Building inside Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Barangay Estefania here on Sunday, Jan. 25, in line with the National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the SAF 44.
In his message, Ibay said that these fallen policemen answered the highest call of duty—choosing courage over comfort, mission over self, and service over personal safety.
He emphasized that their sacrifice was a conscious act of valor rooted in discipline, faith, and unwavering commitment to the Filipino people—one that reshaped institutions and strengthened national resolve.
Ibay noted that their story serves as a powerful reminder that the police uniform is not merely a symbol of authority, but a covenant of service and a pledge to stand firm when the nation calls.
The PRO-NIR underscored that the commemoration is more than a ritual—it is a renewal of purpose and a reminder that peace demands vigilance, leadership requires moral courage, and public trust is earned through sacrifice.
The PRO-NIR thanked the families of the SAF 44, assuring them that the legacy of their loved ones continues through the mission, reforms, and courage of today’s police officers.
