Don't be distracted by impeachment talks, just focus on your job.
This, in a nutshell, was Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco's unsolicited advice to President Marcos, who in the past few days has been the subject of impeachment complaints--both filed and unfiled--at the House of Representatives.
This past week, three impeachment complaints were submitted to the House, with at least one of them getting formally submitted to the secretary general.
But Tiangco reckoned that the President should just keep working, since he would eventually get the opportunity to air his side on all the allegations in the impeachment raps.
“Dahil may proseso yan at pagdating sa panahon na kailangan bigyan ang side niya, madidinig naman ang side niya. So ang unsolicited advice ko, it should not be a distraction for him. Iyan ang aking pananaw,” said the majority congressman.
(Because there is a process, and when the time comes that his side must be heard, his side will indeed be heard. So my unsolicited advice is that it should not be a distraction for him. That is my view.)
“He has the responsibility also na ituloy iyong mga serbisyo sa ating mga kababayan. Alam naman natin ngayon na medyo hirap ang ating ekonomiya, hirap ang ating mga kababayan. So dapat mag-concentrate siya doon,” he added.
(He also has the responsibility to continue delivering services to our people. We all know that our economy is struggling, and our fellow citizens are facing difficulties. So he should concentrate on that.)
According to Tiangco, the impeachment process affects the economy and Filipinos, not just here in the country, but also those working abroad.
“Siyempre pag apektado ang ekonomiya, apektado rin ang mga kababayan natin na naririto sa ating bansa. Apektado rin siyempre ang mga kamag-anak nila na OFW (overseas Filipino workers) na breadwinner na nagpapadala ng pondo dito,” he said.
(Of course, when the economy is affected, our people here at home are affected as well. Their relatives who are OFWs, who are breadwinners sending money back here, are also affected.)
The veteran lawmaker reiterated his earlier stand that the House must fulfill its duty under the 1987 Constitution by acting on impeachment cases brought before it.
