The local government also turned over 3,450 ARAL reading kits with a training component for Grades 2 to 6, including Level 1 and Level 2 kits. Each kit contains materials such as phonetic vocabulary posters, picture cards, word formation cards, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and reading comprehension exercises.
The Level 1 kits cost P20,000 per set, while the Level 2 kits cost P25,000 per set, totaling P77,625,000, inclusive of training.
In addition, 28 Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research (VISSER) Kits for junior high schools were also given.
The mayor said the kits were developed in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of the Philippines (UP) to give more students a modern laboratory experience through these accessible and portable kits.
Each kit contains a handheld device, sensor and setups, accessories and consumables, and laboratory manuals, with teacher training included, costing P2,240,000.
Sotto said the funding for these resources comes from the Special Education Fund (SEF). He also noted that taxpayers have contributed to these initiatives.
Councilor Angelu De Leon also said the program aims to support early reading among children and continuous learning for students through appropriate and high-quality learning materials.
“Kung kayo po ay nagbabayad ng amilyar, nakapag-ambag kayo rito (Those who pay local taxes have contributed to this fund). Thank you also to our Local School Board, City Council, LGU Education Department, DepEd, and all other stakeholders,” the mayor said.
