Motorcycle driver crushed by wing van in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A motorcycle driver was hit and dismembered by a wing van truck on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Panubigan here on Friday, Jan. 23.
Police identified the fatality as John Nelson Abdul Bustamante, 34.
Investigation said that the victim was driving his motorcycle on the highway with two wing van trucks in front of him. He managed to overtake the two trucks and slowed down in a pedestrian lane.
The truck behind him failed to brake and hit the motorcycle. Bustamante was thrown off his motorcycle and the truck ran him over and severed his body. His motorcycle was badly damaged.
The truck did not stop and proceeded towards the city proper where it was intercepted in a checkpoint. Authorities apprehended the 36-year-old driver, a resident of Cagayan de Oro City.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation and the driver faces appropriate charges. Lawmen reminded people to drive always drive carefully.
