Military mourns death of 4 soldiers in Lanao del Norte ambush

The military mourned the death of four soldiers in an ambush by the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) in Barangay Lininding, Munai, Lanao del Norte on Friday, Jan. 23.
A statement issued by 1st Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr. said they were conducting a community support program when they were ambushed.
The activity was a non-combat mission aimed at engaging local communities and addressing the root causes of extremism.
He condoled with the families of the fallen soldiers and assured them of the Armed Forces’ full support.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our personnel who were carrying out a mission to serve the community. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. The 1st Infantry Division is ensuring that all assistance and benefits due to the families of our fallen heroes are promptly provided,” he said.
One soldier was wounded in the ambush and is now receiving treatment.
