Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada on Friday, January 23 welcomed the regional wage board’s approval of an P800-wage increase for domestic workers, noting this fulfills the intention of Republic Act No. 10361 or the Domestic Workers Act, also known as “Batas Kasambahay.”
“Thirteen (13) years since the enactment of Republic Act No. 10361, or the Batas Kasambahay, we are now reaping the fruits of our hard work in steering the passage into law of this landmark legislation, which I pushed and championed in the Senate,” Estrada said in a statement.
“For our countrymen who work hard every day and support their families as domestic workers, an additional P800 in their monthly minimum wage is a great help, especially in the face of the continued increase in the prices of basic commodities,” the senator further said.
“As the main proponent of the Domestic Workers Act, I remain committed to continuing to intensify and strengthen the implementation of this law to better protect the welfare and dignity not only of domestic workers but also of their employers, and to ensure fair and harmonious relations in the workplace,” he said.
Under Wage Order No. NCR-DW-06, the National Wages and Productivity Commission said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has set a minimum wage rate for all domestic helpers in the capital region, increasing their monthly minimum salaries from P7,000 to P7,800.
The new wage rate is set to take effect on Feb. 7, 2026. Also, the wage order said no employers would be exempted from the new rates.
