BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is getting an infrastructure boost with the construction of another police building worth almost P10 million in Barangay Cabug.
The groundbreaking led by the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) on Friday follows the earlier turnover of the logistical equipment by the city government to the BCPO.
The soon-to-rise Philippine National Police (PNP) standard-type three-story building, with an approved budget of contract of P10.55 million, but with a bid amount of P9.03 million, will be occupied by Police Station 9 currently located on Araneta St. in Barangay Sum-ag.
“The construction of Police Station 9 reflects the belief that effective policing begins with a system that supports its personnel. A police station is not merely a structure but a place where duty and service to the people begin, strengthening public trust,” PRO-NIR Director Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas said in a statement.
The groundbreaking and laying of time capsule were attended PRO-NIR Regional Staff chief Police Col. Gilbert Gorero, BCPO Director Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, and Mayor Greg Gasataya.
PRO-NIR spokesperson Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong said the construction of Police Station 9 headquarters is expected to be completed in 240 days.
She added that with the new structure, station personnel are expected to improve response time and bring police services closer to the people, particularly in densely populated and developing areas of the city.
Police Station 9 covers mainly areas in Barangays Cabug, Sum-ag, and Punta Taytay.
Among its 10 police stations, the BCPO has three standard-type police buildings – the Police Station 5 in Barangay Granada, Police Station 7 in Barangay Mansilingan, and Police Station 10 in Barangay Handumanan.
The Bacolod City Mobile Force Company is also based in a standard-type PNP building in Barangay Alangilan.
Police Station 3 based in Barangay Mandalagan will also move soon to a standard-type police building.
Last week, Gasataya turned over of 40,800 9mm training ammunition, 36 personnel computers, and 34 printers to the BCPO.
Coronica said these resources will significantly boost police operations and administrative efficiency.
“These are vital to improving daily police work and strengthening training, especially for Special Weapons and Tactics personnel,” he added.
