Arraignment of ex-Sen Bong Revilla on non-bailable malversation of public funds reset to Feb. 9

The arraignment this morning, Jan. 23, of former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and six other accused in the non-bailable malversation of public funds was reset by the Sandiganbayan to Feb. 9.
Revilla has filed motions, including a plea to dismiss the malversation charge, which have to be tackled by the anti-graft court’s third division. The Office of the Ombudsman was given until Jan 28 to comment on the motions.
The former senator, who voluntarily surrendered when a warrant of arrest was issued, and his co-accused are now detained at the Payatas Jail in Quezon City.
They were charged in the P92.8 million flood control project in Pandi town in Bulacan.
The arraignment on Revilla’s graft case, also in connection with the Pandi flood control project, has been set by the Sandiganbayan’s fourth division at 1:30 p.m. today, Jan. 23.
As of posting time, it was not known if the arraignment on the graft case will proceed.
Revilla, together with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office Assistant District Engineer Brice Hernandez, Engineer Jaypee Mendoza, Engineer R.J. Domasig, and Accountant Juanito Mendoza, Engineer Emelita Juat, and Cashier Christina Mae Pineda were charged before the anti-graft court with violations of Article 217 in relation to Articles 171 and 172 of the Revised Penal Code on malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents.
They were also charged with violations of Section 3(e) of Republic Act No. 3019, the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The criminal cases alleged that Revilla and his co-accused conspired to facilitate the release of approximately P76 million for the supposed construction of the P72.8 million flood control project in Purok 5, Barangay Bonzuran, Pandi, Bulacan, a project which, based on official inspection and witness accounts, was “never implemented.”
The charges stated: "Despite the absence of any actual construction, the respondents declared the project completed. Thereafter, to facilitate the release of the entire project cost, the respondents are found to have falsified accomplishment reports, issued fraudulent billing documents, and endorsed disbursement vouchers."
