Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo S. Duterte II officially assumed their posts on Friday afternoon, Jan. 23, during a ceremony at Davao City Hall.
Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 11 Deputy Executive Judge Marie Estrellita S. Tolentino-Rojas administered their oaths of office.
The two officials were accompanied by their families and friends. Among those in attendance were Davao City third district Rep. Isidro Ungab, Department of the Interior and Local Government-Davao City Director Mika Chan, and lawyer Martin Delgra.
The Dutertes’ succession was prompted by the absence of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who won as mayor in the May elections but remains detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Vice Mayor Duterte said that the former Chief Executive has been fully briefed on the oath-taking during his visit to The Hague last year.
Vice Mayor Duterte said he will prioritize two pressing concerns consistently raised by the people – health and education.
Vice Mayor Duterte said his experience supporting his father, Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte, was instrumental in shaping his understanding of public service and local community needs.
Vice Mayor Duterte and council members said that no final decision has been made regarding the vacancy that his post will create in the Davao City Council.
