About 172 families who lost their homes in the fire that hit a residential area in Barangay 607, Bagumbayan, Bacood, Sta. Mesa, Manila received aid from the Manila City government on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, together with Vice Mayor Chi Atienza and officials from the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), personally went to the Ricas Covered Court evacuation center where the evacuees are currently staying to distribute financial assistance and kitchen kits.
Both Domagoso and Atienza assured the victims that the city government will continue to provide them with aid on their road to recovery.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze had reached the third alarm before it was finally extinguished as most of the houses involved in the fire were made of light materials.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and amount of damage to property.
