LTFRB vows to expedite insurance payment processing for Isabela road crash victims

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered the fast processing of the insurance payment for the three victims who died in the fatal road crash between a truck and a passenger jeepney in Isabela on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said the same order covers the eight other passengers who were injured in the collision that happened along a national highway in Luna town of Isabela.
Mendoza said he already ordered the regional director of Cagayan Valley Region to extend all the assistance to ensure the fast release of the insurance payment through coordination with the Passenger Accident Management & Insurance Agency, Inc. (PAMI).
“On behalf of the men and women of the LTFRB, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the victims who lost their lives as a result of this unfortunate incident,” said Mendoza.
“We know that life cannot be replaced and no amount of assistance can take away the pain of losing a family member but all we can do right now is to ensure that the rights of the victims for insurance payment are protected and expedited,” he added.
Based on the initial investigation, the driver of the dump truck reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to speed and slippery road and as a result, it collided with a passenger jeepney travelling in the opposite direction.
The strong impact caused the passenger jeepney to overturn and as a result, some passengers were thrown out of the vehicle .
LTFRB Cagayan Valley Region Richard Dayag said they have started coordinating with the transport cooperative which owns and operates the passenger jeepney and with PAMI to expedite the processing of the payment.
Based on the insurance payment, the fatalities are entitled to P400,000 each while the injured victims could claim up to P100,000.
As a matter of protocol, he said a show cause order was also issued to the operator of the passenger jeepney as part of the investigation to determine the road worthiness of the vehicle.
