The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Jan. 22, said Baguio City recorded its lowest air temperature this northeast monsoon or “amihan” season at 11 degrees Celsius (°C).
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said surges of the amihan are expected to persist this week.
Other areas that logged chilly temperatures early Thursday included Basco, Batanes (15.8°C); Tanay, Rizal (17.2°C); Malaybalay, Bukidnon (18°C); San Ildefonso, Bulacan (18.6°C); and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (18.7°C). Calayan, Cagayan, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur both recorded (18.9°C). Casiguran, Aurora (19.2°C), while Baler, Aurora (19.5°C).
Over the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with light rains will prevail over Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Caraga, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may also persist over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, the rest of the Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Dominguez said Tropical Depression Ada (international name: Nokaen) has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA) and was last located 1,156 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon.
It remains inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but is no longer directly affecting any part of the country, she added,
Another LPA outside the PAR was located about 1,990 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
Dominguez said the chance of the weather disturbance developing into a tropical cyclone remains low, but the possibility of it entering the PAR has not been ruled out.
