TD Ada to fizzle out while new LPA is being monitored; 'amihan' brings cooler weather — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Jan. 21, said Tropical Depression Ada (Nokaen) is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area (LPA) within 24 to 48 hours, while another LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is being monitored.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said the center of Ada was located 1,215 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.
“Dry air entrainment from the surge of the northeast monsoon (amihan) will result in downgrading Ada into a low-pressure area today, Jan. 21, or tomorrow, Jan. 22,” de la Cruz-Galicia said.
Meanwhile, a new LPA was spotted about 2,355 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao. It remains far from the country and is moving slowly as it consolidates.
At present, we are not ruling out the chance of a brief entrance into the PAR, but our latest models suggest it is unlikely to enter, de la Cruz-Galicia said.
Meanwhile, the amihan continues to bring cooler temperatures and light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains are also expected in Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of Calabarzon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.
