Domagoso explained that following the directive of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), garbage trucks that previously traveled about 10 kilometers to dispose of waste are now required to cover nearly 30 kilometers, representing an increase of roughly 200 percent in hauling distance.
The longer travel time has resulted in higher fuel expenses, operational costs, and logistical challenges, affecting the city’s overall waste collection system.
According to the mayor, these added costs were among the key factors that led to the increase in garbage fees paid by business establishments in Manila.
Domagoso appealed for understanding from the business sector and emphasized the importance of collective cooperation to ensure the city remains clean, orderly, and properly managed, despite the challenges posed by the new waste disposal arrangement.
