FedEx names new APAC chief to oversee regional growth
Salil Chari
Logistics giant Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) has named seasoned executive Salil Chari as its new president for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, which includes the Philippines.
Chari assumed his new role on Jan. 1, following the appointment of former regional president Kawal Preet as the company’s executive vice president (EVP) for planning, engineering, and transformation.
Prior to being named as the new regional president, Chari was senior vice president of marketing and customer Experience in FedEx’s APAC unit.
FedEx Chief Operating Officer Richard Smith said the new leadership marks a new chapter for the company’s APAC business, with the focus still on delivering the best value to customers.
“With [Chari’s] deep understanding of the region, I am confident he will lead our APAC business to new heights and reinforce the region’s importance to our global growth,” said Smith.
Since joining FedEx in 1997, Chari has held successive leadership roles across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and Africa.
As regional president, he will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the Memphis-based logistics conglomerate in APAC amid evolving trade policies and supply chain shifts.
“Asia Pacific is home to some of the world’s most dynamic and fast-evolving trade corridors, creating powerful opportunities for businesses of all sizes to grow and compete globally,” said Chari.
“As we build on our strong foundation, my priority is to strengthen resilience, accelerate growth, and deepen the role FedEx plays as a valued partner for our customers and communities,” he added.
Chari will lead a team of nearly 30,000 across the more than 40 countries in which FedEx operates.
FedEx’s APAC unit is based in Singapore, with sub-regional headquarters in China, Japan, and Australia.
In the Philippines, FedEx’s hub is in the Clark Freeport Zone, where it processes around 9,000 packages per hour.
The local unit of the company employs over 1,000 Filipinos and operates a fleet of 157 vehicles.
