A suspected Chinese rocket passed over Palawan’s airspace, the Philippine Navy (PN) reported on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The suspected People’s Republic of China (PRC) Long March 12 rocket was observed traversing Palawan’s airspace at 3:59 p.m. on Jan. 19 by the Western Naval Command (WNC).
“The event was captured on video by WNC personnel as part of ongoing real-time monitoring operations,” Capt. Ellaine Rose Collado, WNC spokesperson, said.
She said the video shows a visible trail consistent with rocket transit, which aligns with pre-launch advisories indicating potential debris drop zones approximately 20 to 160 nautical miles off the eastern coast of Palawan, including areas near Puerto Princesa City and the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park.
Meanwhile, the Navy reported no injuries, property damage, or debris impact on any landmass after the sighting.
“All concerned agencies remain on heightened alert and continue to closely monitor the situation. The public is advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any unusual sightings or debris to local authorities,” Collado said.
