A HORRIFIC accident killed three persons in Isabela on Wednesday.
Three people – a 19-year-old male student, an elderly woman celebrating her birthday, and a hospital patient – were killed and eight others were injured in multiple collision involving a passenger jeepney, a dump truck, and a motorcycle in Barangay Mambabanga, Luna town, Isabela province, on Wednesday morning, Jan. 21.
Police Major Jonathan Ramos, Luna police chief, said the dump truck reportedly skidded while attempting to make a full stop to avoid a vehicle overtaking and crashed into the jeepney with 11 people on board – the driver and 10 passengers.
Three jeepney passengers died on the spot and seven others, including the driver, were injured, including a one-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries. The injured were taken to a hospital in Cauayan City, Isabela.
The jeepney was on its way to Cauayan City when the accident happened. The driver and a passenger of a trailing motorcycle were injured after crashing into the rear of the jeepney from Cabatuan, Isabela.
Police believe the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the jeepney due to excessive speed and slippery road. Due to the strong impact, the jeepney passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and its roof was torn off.
The dump truck driver was unharmed. All vehicles involved incurred significant damage.
The dump truck driver and the vehicles were taken to the Luna Police Station for proper investigation and disposition.
Police managed traffic flow and coordinated with forensics investigators for further investigation.
