The Valenzuela City Police Station arrested a suspect in a shooting incident in Barangay Marulas that left one person dead and another injured on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Police identified the suspect as “Doddie,” 47, a resident of the area.
The victims were identified as “Pepito,” 50, who was declared dead at the scene, and “Gerlie,” 62, who sustained injuries.
According to the Valenzuela City Police Station–Investigation and Detection Management Section (IDMS), Pepito was talking with neighbors when the suspect approached and allegedly said, “Ano, papahuli mo na naman ako, wala ka bang ibang ipapahuli (So, you’re having me arrested again, don’t you have anyone else to report?)”
Police said Pepito appeared to be about to make a phone call on his mobile phone, prompting the suspect to leave the area and head toward the Kapisanan ng mga Anak Dalita (KAD) Compound.
Moments later, the suspect returned armed with a revolver and shot Pepito once in the head, causing him to collapse on the pavement.
The bullet also struck Gerlie on the leg as she was walking nearby.
Both victims were rushed to the Valenzuela Medical Center. Pepito was declared dead at around 6:23 p.m., while Gerlie was later discharged after receiving medical treatment.
Police conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the suspect inside a house at the Kapisanan ng mga Anak Dalita Compound.
Recovered from the suspect was a caliber .38 revolver with five live rounds and one fired cartridge case.
The suspect will face charges for murder and attempted homicide, and violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (The Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
