PNP: Discovery of tampered luxury car vindicates confiscation of luxury vehicles linked to Zaldy Co
The operation that led to the confiscation of luxury cars linked to former Ako Bicol party-list congressman Zaldy Co was vindicated by the discovery of a fraudulent plate of one of the questionable vehicles, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
This, after the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) disclosed that a Ferrari from Co’s confiscated luxury vehicles was found to have a spurious license plate following a macro-etching examination that revealed the car is registered to another person who also owns the same model.
“This reinforces our earlier position that all operations were conducted with full legal authority, coordination with LTO, and under the presumption of regularity,” said Nartatez.
Meanwhile, another vehicle linked to Co was registered under a female’s name while two others lacked clearances from the Motor Vehicle Clearance Division (MVCD) of the PNP-HPG.
The luxury vehicles were confiscated from the parking area of a BGC condominium building in Taguig City on January 8 by virtue of search warrants.
Nartatez said the PNP-HPG is investigating the rightful owner of the plate while coordination has been made with the Land Transportation Office to pursue additional charges against Co.
Operations to track down 10 more luxury vehicles tied to Co are also ongoing.
