Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday, Jan. 20, announced a new batch of Manila children who will be sent to India to undergo life-saving liver transplant procedures under the city government’s medical assistance program.
The mayor said the city government has released a total of P6,976,208.85 to cover medical and related expenses for four pediatric patients requiring liver transplants, as well as one patient scheduled to undergo burr hole aspiration and craniotomy procedures.
During a brief interaction with the families, Domagoso reminded them that the assistance was made possible through the collective efforts of the city government and Manila taxpayers.
“Pasalamat kayo sa Diyos at sa taxpayers ng Manila (Thank God and the taxpayers of Manila),” the Mayor said.
He also urged the parents to remain steadfast and prayerful as they prepare for their children’s surgeries abroad.
“May awa ang Diyos, magdasal kayo (God is merciful; keep praying),” Domagoso added.
The mayor expressed optimism for the children’s full recovery and long-term well-being.
“Sana lumaki at maging malusog silang lahat (I hope they all grow up healthy),” he said.
The latest release forms part of the city government’s continuing commitment to provide financial support for life-saving medical interventions for Manila residents who are unable to afford highly specialized treatments, particularly pediatric liver transplants, which remain limited in availability locally.
In December 2025, Domagoso approved the release of P7.4 million from the city’s Special Health Fund to support five Manila children who underwent liver transplant procedures in India, four at Indraprastha Medical Corporation Ltd. and one at Max Healthcare Institute Limited.
At the time, the mayor emphasized that the city government, together with Manila taxpayers, stood firmly behind the families in their time of need.
The initiative also reflects the mayor’s long-term vision of strengthening local medical capacity, following the country’s first successful pediatric liver transplant in a government hospital at the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).
The landmark procedure was supported by more than P30 million in donations that Domagoso helped mobilize to expand access to life-saving pediatric surgeries in the Philippines.
