Marcos believes Bonoan will only tell truth in flood control probe

Malacañang said President Marcos believes that former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Manuel Bonoan would only speak of the truth in the investigation of the anomalous flood control projects.

"Naniniwala po ang Pangulo na si dating Secretary Manny Bonoan ay magsasabi ng katotohanan lalong-lalo naman po na siya ay nasa Senado at under oath ang kaniyang mga sinasabi (The President believes that former Secretary Manny Bonoan will tell the truth, especially since he is in the Senate and his statements are made under oath)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

"So, kailangan lamang po tayo umasa na mga katotohanan lamang ang kanyang sasabihin (We just need to trust that he will speak only the truth)," Castro added.

Bonoan finally returned to the Philippines, and appeared before the Senate on Monday to address allegations of negligence and corruption over the massive flood control anomalies.

Earlier, Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson revealed that Bonoan allegedly submitted wrong flood control project locations to the President.

Malacañang has since opted to verify the claim first before making any statement.
