Macacua signs BARMM redistricting bill into law

COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua signed into law Bangsamoro Proposed Bill No. 415 on Tuesday, which defines 32 parliamentary districts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
It is now known as the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 86 of 2026, or the “Act Providing for the Apportionment of Parliamentary District Seats in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM),” a vital requirement for the conduct of the region’s parliamentary elections.
The signing took place in the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) session hall in this city.
The law allocated 32 parliamentary district seats across the provinces and areas of the region as provided under the measure: Lanao del Sur – nine; Maguindanao del Norte – five; Maguindanao del Sur – five; Basilan — four; Tawi-Tawi – four; Cotabato City — three, and Special Geographic Area — two.
“May this law serve the Bangsamoro people with fairness, stability, and purpose,” Macacua said.
Before the signing, Macacua told regional lawmakers that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was elated with the approval of the measure, describing it as “good news for the people of the Bangsamoro region.”
The act was also signed by BTA Speaker Mohammad Yacob and Muslim Guiamaden, the region’s “Wali” (ceremonial head), who witnessed the ceremonies. (PNA)
