In a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 20, Marcos said that she thinks it is part of a drama series that will last the whole year.
"Kilala naman natin sino nag-file at anong background, kaya yun nga, baka drama series para sa isang taong tagal (We all know who filed it and what their background is, so it might just be a drama series meant to last for a year)," he said.
Asked whether this was done to trigger the one-year bar rule in the impeachment process, she said: "To that effect? Oo, siguro (Yes, maybe)."
The law imposes a one-year rule in the impeachment process, providing that no impeachment proceedings may be initiated against the same official more than once within one year.
An impeachment case is considered initiated once a verified complaint is filed and referred to the House Committee on Justice, or when a complaint is endorsed by at least one-third of House members, which automatically elevates it to the Senate. This rule is intended to prevent repeated impeachment attempts from harassing or destabilizing constitutional officers while maintaining accountability.
Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay endorsed on Monday morning, Jan. 19 an impeachment complaint against President Marcos, the first under the latter's administration. The impeachment complaint, which cited six arguments, was prepared by a private citizen, lawyer Andre de Jesus.
