EXO returns with 'Reverxe' album, sells nearly 266,000 copies on first day of release
K-pop boy band EXO made their comeback, releasing their eight studio album “Reverxe” on Jan. 16.
The album features nine tracks, including the main track, “Crown.” This is EXO’s first release in two and a half years since “Exist” in 2023.
Korea’s Hanteo Chart revealed that “Reverxe” sold 265,934 copies on the day of release on Jan. 19, or equivalent to 362,921.22 points in physical record index, a combination of album sales and price used by the chart to rank albums, to take first place on the daily album chart.
“Exist” sold 1,074,914 copies on the first day of release on July 10, 2023 based on Hanteo Chart data.
Six of the nine members of EXO participated in the new album: Suho, Lay, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun. Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin were not included in the album.
At the showcase for the album in Seoul on Jan. 19, Suho, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun participated.
“Reverxe” ranked No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart 35 countries and regions, including the US, Philippines, Brazil, Chile, Honduras, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Paraguay, Peru, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Belarus, Hong Kong, India, Latvia, Turkey, El Salvador, Finland, Brunei, Colombia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Bolivia, Korean media reported.
It also topped China’s QQ Music digital album sales chart and received a “double platinum” certification (sales exceeding two million yuan or about $286,991).
For “Reverxe,” EXO returned to their universe for a new chapter, reinterpreting the word “reverse” through their own stylistic lens to convey the meaning of a new world opening once again.
The main track, “Crown,” is a dance track blending Atlanta trap drums, heavy metal guitar riffs and EDM synths..
