5.2-magnitude earthquake jolts Sultan Kudarat — Phivolcs

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Sultan Kudarat at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake’s epicenter was located 44 kilometers southwest of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, at a shallow depth of two kilometers.
Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic in origin, caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
The earthquake was felt at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat; Intensity III (weak) in Kiamba and Maitum in Sarangani, Santo Niño, T’Boli, Lake Sebu, Norala, and Tupi in South Cotabato, and Isulan in Sultan Kudarat; and Intensity II (slightly felt) in M’lang, Cotabato; City of Digos, Davao del Sur; Maasim, Malungon, and Alabel in Sarangani; Tampakan, Tantangan, and Banga in South Cotabato; and Bagumbayan and Esperanza in Sultan Kudarat.
Intensity I (scarecely perceptible) was recorded in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Malapatan, Sarangani; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; and City of Zamboanga.
Phivolcs said there was no immediate damage, but residents were warned to remain alert as aftershocks may still occur.
