Woman found dead along CALAX, live-in partner surrenders
CAVITE – A woman was found dead along the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) in Silang, early morning on Sunday, Jan. 18.
In a statement on Monday, Jan. 19, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) said the victim, identified by her child as alias Isa, was a 52-year-old maintenance worker residing in Naic.
A few hours after the discovery of the body, the victim’s 34-year-old live-in partner, alias Elias, surrendered to the Silang Municipal Police Station.
Alias Elias said he and the victim were riding a motorcycle along CALAX evening on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they accidentally hit a barrier, causing them to lose balance.
The victim sustained a head injury and lost consciousness. The suspect said he tried to wake the victim, but to no avail.
Alias Elias reportedly got scared and, instead of asking for help, decided to flee the accident scene, leaving alias Isa on the roadside.
Hours after the incident, a security guard patrolling the area found the victim dead.
“Dahil dito, lumalabas na inabandona ng suspek ang kanyang biktima, na naging sanhi ng tuluyang pagkamatay nito; kung agad sana itong dinala sa pagamutan, maaari pa sanang naagapan ang kanyang buhay (Because of this, the suspect is deemed to have abandoned the victim, which ultimately led to her death; had the victim been brought to a hospital immediately, her life might have been saved),” the police said in a statement.
Alias Elias is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and abandonment of one’s victim, punishable under Article 275 of the Revised Penal Code.
Cavite PPO Director Col. Ariel R. Red reminded the public to immediately seek help from authorities in case of emergencies, as doing so can save lives.
