The district of Pandacan came alive with music, dance, and devotion as Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza led the celebration of the 2026 Buling-Buling Street Dance Festival on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Buling-Buling is a deeply rooted religious and historical tradition in Pandacan, where devotees dance through the streets as an offering to the Holy Child Jesus, Señor Santo Niño.
Participants don traditional Filipino attire—Barong Tagalog for men and Saya or Filipiniana Terno for women—symbolizing faith, gratitude, and cultural pride.
Representing the city leadership on behalf of Mayor. Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, Vice Mayor Atienza joined thousands of devotees, barangay officials, and cultural groups during the annual dance-procession held at Liwasang Balagtas.
In her keynote message, Atienza underscored the power of faith in overcoming life’s challenges.
“Kumapit tayo kay Santo Niño, sa Panginoon, sa ating puso at sa ating pananampalataya. Kahit ano pa man ang pinagdaraanan ng bawat isa sa inyo, naniniwala ako na malalampasan natin ito basta sama-sama tayo (Let us hold on to the Santo Niño, to the Lord, in our hearts and in our faith. Whatever each of you may be going through, I believe we will overcome it as long as we stand together). ” she said.
Atienza also conveyed the warm greetings of Mayor Isko Moreno, who was in Singapore at the time to pursue further studies aimed at bringing global best practices back to the capital.
“Nakita ko na mayroon din siyang mala-batang pananampalataya tulad ng Santo Niño. Hindi natin naramdaman ang hirap na pinagdaanan ng administrasyong ito dahil gumawa siya ng paraan upang matupad ang kanyang mga ipinangako (I saw that he, too, has a childlike faith similar to that of the Santo Niño. We did not feel the hardships faced by this administration because he found ways to fulfill his promises),” Atienza noted.
She assured Manileños that the delivery of essential local government services, particularly in healthcare, remains uninterrupted.
Fully immersing herself in the festivities, the vice mayor was seen dancing side by side with residents, sharing in the community’s joy as she honored the Santo Niño de Pandacan while wearing a mint green Filipiniana terno.
The celebration was attended by key religious and local figures, including Bishop Vicente Salvador Ballesteros, as well as representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
The city government said the 2026 Buling-Buling Festival once again stood as a testament to the enduring faith and cultural heritage of the Pandaqueños, ensuring that the seeds of tradition and devotion continue to thrive for future generations.
