BACOLOD CITY – A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councilor and two others were arrested and 105 grams of suspected shabu valued at P714,000 was seized in a buy-bust operation in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 here on Monday, Jan. 19.
Police identified the suspects as Jess, 19, SK Councilor; SK Kagawad Jov, 23, and JM, 18.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said Jess was reportedly involved in illegal drug activities in Barangays 2, 10, and 12.
Following intelligence reports, police conducted surveillance and, with the help of a confidential informant, arranged a transaction that led to their arrest.
Authorities said Jess’ two companions were allegedly purchasing illegal drugs when they were arrested.
Jess and Jov were classified as high-value individuals while JM was tagged as a street-level individual.
The contraband was submitted to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Forensic Unit for laboratory examination. Suspects are detained at Police Station 2.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, said the operation underscored their firm enforcement of the law regardless of an individual’s position or status.
He said that public officials and drug offenders will be held accountable and reiterated their commitment to combating illegal drugs through intelligence-driven and lawful operations.
