Public warned vs fake goods after P202 M worth of counterfeit products seized in Bulacan, Pampanga raids
The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing goods online and to report defective or counterfeit products following two separate operations that resulted in the confiscation of around P202 million worth of fake footwear and equipment.
The operations were conducted in Bulacan and Pampanga by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) over the weekend and also led to the arrest of at least seven foreigners.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said that they are aggressive in running after fake and unsafe products, there is also a need for the people to protect their money by checking and verifying the products that they buy, especially via online platforms.
“Public trust is non-negotiable, and the PNP will act against anyone who undermines it. In fact, we are taking a multi-pronged approach to dismantle the entire supply chain of these counterfeit goods,” said Nartatez.
Nartatez said the operations stemmed from tips from a civilian informant and complaints from online buyers about the defective products they bought from online sellers.
In Pulilan, Bulacan, authorities seized 1,119 boxes of counterfeit shoes, 30 sacks of footwear accessories, one injector machine, and three molding machines.
Three Chinese nationals were taken into custody.
In San Simon, Pampanga, another Chinese national was arrested after officials recovered counterfeit Crocs slippers and a molding machine.
“We are fully committed to protecting legitimate businesses and consumers. Expect that we will aggressively pursue everyone involved, local man or foreigner,” said Nartatez.
