The Philippine Embassy in Spain is now coordinating with Spanish authorities to determine if there is any Filipino casualty in the high-speed train crash in Cordoba.
The mission on Monday, Jan. 19, extended its thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families in the accident that killed at least 39.
On Sunday evening, carriages of a Madrid-bound train derailed and crossed over to the opposite track before it collided with another oncoming train.
Around four hundred passengers and staff were onboard both trains, according to the rail networks.
“Emergency services are responding to the scene. All rail services between Madrid and Andalusia were suspended following the accident and are expected to remain closed on Monday, 19 January 2026,” the embassy said.
In the meantime, the embassy provided the contact details shared by the train companies for inquiries about relatives or loved ones onboard:
• Renfe: +34 900 101 020
• Iryo: +34 900 001 402.
