President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (RTVM)
Infrastructure projects, including airport developments, should be implemented properly so that it would immediately benefit Filipinos, President Marcos said.
"Gawin ninyo itong pamantayan para sa ating serbisyo sa mga residente at sa ating mga turista. Tiyakin natin naisasagawa nang maayos ang mga proyekto upang mas mabilis itong mapakinabangan ng ating mga mamamayan (Let us make this the standard for our service to our residents and to our tourists. Let us ensure that projects are carried out properly so that our citizens can benefit from them more quickly)," Marcos said.
The President made the statement as he led the inauguration of the Antique Airport Development Projects in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique on Monday, January 19.
He also said that the implementation of the airport's development under a total of P1.576-billion cost, was a good example of a properly spent public fund.
"Ito ay isang magandang halimbawa na kung saan kung tama ang pinaglalagyan ng pera ng tao, makikita natin, napakarami na kaya nating gawin, mas mabilis, mas mura, at mas maganda (This is a good example showing that when people’s money is placed in the right hands, we can see that there is so much we are able to do, faster, cheaper, and better)," Marcos said.
In his speech, the Chief Executive also directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to ensure the smooth implementation of the Western Visayas airports modernization.
He stressed that the Antique Airport Development Project is part of a wider modernization in the Western Visayas.
The President cited the ongoing rehabilitation of various facilities of the Iloilo International Airport such as its passenger terminal building, escalators, flight information display system, and improvement of baggage handling system.
Asphalt work in Iloilo International Airport’s runway is also being done to improve safety, he added.
Similar efforts are being carried out in Roxas Airport including the asphalting of the airport runway.
The construction of the airport control tower will also commence this year, said the President.
“Umaasa ako na pananatilihin ng DOTr at CAAP ang kalinisan, kaayusan, at organisasyon ng mga pasilidad na ito (I expect that the DOTr and CAAP will maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, and organization of these facilities)," Marcos said.
The opening of the new Passenger Terminal Building within the Antique Airport has expanded its capacity to 360 passengers from the previous 64.
Other improvements include the upgraded Administrative Building, new airport apron and taxiway, construction of an air traffic control tower.
A new fire station, power house, and pump house were also built to ensure airport safety.
Implemented by the DOTr and CAAP, the Antique Airport Development Project aims to accommodate jet aircraft, thus enhancing the province’s accessibility to strengthen its role as a gateway to Western Visayas.
