John Hay suspends e-shuttle after fatal crash, orders safety audit
THE crashed e-shuttle.
BAGUIO CITY – Camp John Hay management suspended its free e-shuttle service and ordered a comprehensive safety review Monday following the Jan. 16 accident that killed one person and injured six.
John Hay Management Corp. president Manjit Singh Reandi said the suspension will continue until all operational factors are thoroughly checked.
“As soon as I was told of the incident, I immediately ordered a stoppage of all the e-shuttle wherever they were just to be sure. We will not resume the operation until we have checked, rechecked, and multiple checked all factors,” Reandi said in a press conference here.
He said investigators did not find mechanical defect in the vehicle but are examining the driver's fitness, operational systems, and passenger insurance. JHMC is also assessing walkways, railings, and roads throughout the camp for potential interventions.
Reandi said JHMC has provided humanitarian assistance to the fatality's family and is reaching out to other victims who sought treatment independently.
The operator, Cordillera Basic Sector for Transportation, is cooperating with the probe.
The shuttle service, launched to address mobility issues in the camp, serves both tourists and local workers. (PNA)
