Caloocan City 2nd district Rep. Edgar "Egay" Erice has called out lawyer Andre de Jesus for supposedly flipping the script when it comes to the latter's filing of an impeachment complaint against President Marcos.
While De Jesus justified his impeachment complaint with a passion before House reporters on Monday, Jan. 19, Erice said that a previous representation made by the lawyer makes his current crusade to oust Marcos quite "strange".
"It is strange that De jesus filed the complaint against [Bongbong Marcos] when he is the same lawyer who defended First Lady Liza [Araneta-] Marcos in Nov 2024 when he filed a disbarment case against Atty. Glen chong for villifying the First Lady," Erice said in a message sent to reporters.
The House Senior Deputy Minority Leader was referring to an incident in 2024 when Chong, a former congressman from Biliran, publicly threatened to slap President Marcos' wife.
This notwithstanding, Erice believes that the verified and duly-endorsed complaint filed by De Jesus was weak.
"The [12-] page impeachment complaint filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus can be easily dismissed as it lacks form and substance," he said, without giving any explanation.
De Jesus was sought for comment regarding the Caloocan solon's remarks, but he has yet to respond as of this. posting.
It's the House Committee on Justice's mandate to determine an impeachment complaint's sufficiency in form and in substance.
Deputy Minority Leader Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay endorsed De Jesus' impeachment complaint. It was the first such complaint ever filed against Marcos.
In his complaint, De Jesus claimed that 1. Marcos ordered and enabled the kidnapping and surrender of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC), 2. Marcos is unfit to serve as President due to drug addiction, 3. Marcos committed betrayal of public trust when he failed to veto unprogrammed appropriations (UA) and other unconstitutional provisions in the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), 4. Marcos engaged in graft and corruption through kickbacks and ghost projects, 6. Marcos created the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to shield corrupt allies, and 6. Marcos violated the Constitution and betrayed public trust by surrendering former President Duterte to the ICC.
