Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered an independent third-party safety check of the stalled Aganan Flyover in Iloilo City to ensure the structure’s integrity before it is opened to motorists.
Dizon said a foreign consultant will conduct the evaluation.
He added that the Aganan Flyover remains a priority infrastructure project and is still targeted for completion before the end of 2026.
Once completed, the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion along Felix Gorriceta Jr. Avenue and Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue, two major roads serving Iloilo City.
DPWH earlier reported that the project faces funding gaps, with an additional P285 million needed to cover jet grouting works and road widening requirements.
“I will assure—and the President will assure—that the Aganan Flyover will finally be finished before Christmas of 2026,” Dizon said during his inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Iloilo.
He also encouraged the public to report stalled or defective public works projects, saying timely feedback will allow the agency to immediately address issues and prevent further delays.
