Chery's Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition posted a fuel economy result of 84.28-km/Lge in a recent fuel eco run organized by the Department of Energy (DOE) in September 2025. The km/Lge figure refers to kilometers per liter in gasoline equivalent, a metric that combines both fuel and electricity use into a single number for easier comparison with conventional vehicles. Chery Auto Philippines says the figure places the seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV among the strongest performers in its class for efficiency.
The DOE’s fuel eco runs are designed to compare how different powertrain types behave over a controlled route that reflects real-world conditions as closely as possible. For this round, the Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition ran alongside vehicles from plug-in hybrid, hybrid, diesel, and gasoline categories, giving the DOE and participating brands a common reference point for highway consumption.
For this edition of the event, the route covered roughly 156 kilometers. Vehicles started from Petron TPLEX Northbound, proceeded to a turnaround point at the Rosario rotunda in La Union, then headed back to finish at Petron TPLEX Southbound. The layout provided a mix of steady-speed expressway cruising and typical provincial highway traffic, which tends to highlight the strengths of hybrid and electrified powertrains.
In the local lineup, the Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition is positioned as Chery’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUV. It uses the brand’s Super Hybrid (CSH) system and pairs a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission. Output is rated at 204 ps and 310 Nm of torque. According to Chery, the combination of battery capacity, electric drive, and hybrid operation allows a combined EV and hybrid driving range of up to 1,400 kilometers on a full charge and tank, depending on conditions and driving style.
Charging flexibility is another focus of the model. The Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition supports Type 2 and CCS2 standards, which means it can be topped up at most public AC and DC charging points that use these widely adopted connectors. This allows owners to treat it as an electric vehicle for shorter daily runs where charging is available, while still relying on the gasoline engine and hybrid system for longer out-of-town trips.
The cabin and equipment set are aimed at buyers who want a feature-rich family SUV with electrified power. Standard equipment includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for active safety, a 540 degree camera system that aids low speed maneuvering and parking, a 15.6 inch infotainment display, and a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. A Sony 12 speaker surround sound system is also fitted, along with a range of comfort and convenience features expected in the segment.
Chery also points to growing recognition for the model outside the Philippines. The Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition, which is also marketed as the Tiggo 8 in other markets, was named Car of the Year 2026 by UK based automotive platform Carwow, known for its comparative reviews and scoring.
On the retail side, Chery says the Tiggo rEV’s reception has been helped by a blend of hybrid technology, feature content, and pricing, backed by the brand’s expanding physical presence. Chery Auto Philippines reports that there are now 25 dealerships in operation nationwide, providing sales and aftersales support for the model. The Chery Tiggo rEV Luxury Edition is offered at Chery dealerships across the country with pricing starting at ₱1,528,000.
