The city government of Las Piñas, led by Mayor April Aguilar, distributed food packs and financial assistance to the 37 families displaced by a fire that broke out on Friday, Jan. 16, at Pugad Lawin in Barangay Almanza Dos.
Aguilar personally visited the affected families who are temporarily staying at the TS Cruz Covered Court to check their condition and ensure that assistance reached them without delay.
In addition, essential goods such as first aid kits, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and kitchen kits were also distributed to help them cope while staying at the evacuation site.
The City Health Office (CHO) was deployed to provide first aid services, distribute necessary medication, and administer anti-tetanus vaccines to residents who sustained injuries during the incident.
Several city offices worked together in responding to the emergency, including the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Office of the City Engineer, and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), in coordination with barangay officials. These offices continue to monitor the condition of the affected Las Piñeros and assess their needs at the evacuation center.
Aguilar assured the affected families that the city government remains committed to assisting them in their recovery and rehabilitation as efforts continue to help them rebuild their lives after the fire.
According to a resident, the fire started around 12:15 p.m. after they smelled burning rice that was allegedly left unattended, followed by an explosion.
The fire quickly spread throughout the neighborhood before firefighters from the Las Piñas Bureau of Fire Protection were able to control the blaze at around 12:26 p.m.
