DSWD-5 assists families affected by Matnog landslide

LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) extended immediate assistance to families affected by a landslide in Barangay Bariis, Matnog, Sorsogon, which claimed two lives on Saturday.
The families were asleep when the landslide happened, resulting in the deaths of a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. Several other residents sustained minor injuries.
DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio said the agency deployed personnel from the Social Welfare and Development-Sorsogon and the Crisis Intervention Section (CIS)-Irosin to conduct on-site assessments and home visits for affected households.
CIS social workers provided psychosocial first aid to help bereaved families cope with emotional distress.
Under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, the families will receive burial expenses assistance.
Additional cash aid is also being arranged to support immediate needs and daily subsistence.
The local government said it already extended financial support to the affected families.
Earlier reports said heavy rains brought by tropical storm ‘’Ada’’ triggered the landslide in the residential area, affecting two households. (PNA)
