Tropical Storm “Ada” displaced nearly 300 individuals and paralyzed sea travel across several regions that left around 8,800 passengers stranded in ports nationwide as weather conditions worsened on Saturday, Jan. 17. Authorities were also validating two reported deaths in Matnog, Sorsogon following a landslide.
As of 8 a.m. on January 17, a total of 120 families or 297 persons were affected by the storm in Caraga (Region 13), particularly in Agusan del Norte where three evacuation centers were activated, according to data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The NDRRMC said it was validating reports that two individuals died after a landslide that struck Barangay Bariis in Matnog, Sorsogon on Saturday midnight.
"[It's] still [being] validated," NDRRMC information officer Diego Mariano said when asked about the matter.
A total of 12 flooded areas were recorded in the cities and municipalities of Buenavista, Remedios T. Romualdez, and Tubay in Agusan del Norte; and in Butuan City.

One house in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte was also partially damaged.
Power interruptions were also recorded in three areas in Caraga: Tubay, Agusan del Norte; Carmen, Surigao del Sur; and San Jose, Dingata Islands.
Sea travel took the heaviest blow as 40 ports suspended operations across Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Bicol, and Northeastern Mindanao, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
A total of 8,827 passengers were stranded along with 3,089 rolling cagoes, 24 vessels and seven motorboats as of 12 noon.
A total of 72 vessels and 35 motorbancas have also taken shelter as a precautionary measure against the effects of the heavy weather, the PCG noted.
Classes covering pre-school to tertiary were suspended in 76 cities and municipalities across Bicol (Region V), Eastern Visayas (Region 8), and Caraga.
