Navy rescues 30 crew, passengers of distressed boat in Tawi-Tawi

THIRTY individuals were rescued from a distressed boat in Tawi-Tawi.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Armed Forces Western Mindanao Naval Command rescued 30 crew and passengers of a motor launch stranded in the sea of Taganak Island, Tawi-Tawi province last Friday night, Jan. 16.
A Philippine Navy vessel, the BRP Magluyan (PC392), monitored a flashing light in the area. Closer inspection revealed the M/L Nurdia with a broken rudder and 30 passengers and crew members, including a pregnant woman, two senior citizens, and five minors.
Despite huge waves, Navy personnel managed to transfer all passengers on board their vessel and by 4:45 a.m. Saturday, all passengers were safely transported to the Taganak port.
Taganak Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Philippine Coast Guard personnel provided hot meals to the passengers who were all in good condition.
