The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned on Saturday, Jan. 17, that heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Ada (Nokaen) are expected over parts of Bicol and Eastern Visayas this weekend, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
Catanduanes is forecast to receive more than 200 millimeters of intense to torrential rainfall on Saturday, which may trigger widespread severe flooding and landslides.
Heavy to intense rains (100 to 200 millimeters) are also expected in Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Northern Samar on Saturday, and on Sunday, Jan. 18, in Catanduanes.
These conditions are likely to cause numerous flooding events in urbanized, low-lying, or riverside areas, while landslides are expected in moderate to highly susceptible zones.
Moderate to heavy rainfall (50 to 100 millimeters) is forecast for Quezon, Camarines Norte, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran on Saturday, and for Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur on Sunday.
Localized flooding may occur in urbanized or low-lying areas, and landslides are possible in highly susceptible communities.
PAGASA urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential flood- and landslide-related hazards.
