A WAYWARD bus killed a sexagenarian in Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
BAGUIO CITY — A 63-year-old woman was killed and her four companions were injured when they were hit by a wayward electric bus in Camp John Hay here on Friday, Jan. 16.
Police identified the fatality as Rowena Andrion.
Investigation said that the electric bus with license plates NY369B driven by Johnny Algayan Dumanni Jr. of Itogon, Benguet was travelling on Scout Hill Road when it suddenly veered to the left and hit Andrion and her companions Susan Robles, Jessica Dacpano, Angelica Castro, and Levy Serrano Pacleb.
Andrion died on the spot. Her companions were taken to a hospital.
The incident occurred at 3:20 p.m. and was reported to authorities at 4:30 p.m.
Dumanni faces a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
The Baguio City police Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) is conducting further investigation.
Manjit Singh Reandi, president and chief executive officer of John Hay Management Corp., said that they are investigating the incident and coordinating with authorities and the Cordillera Basic Sector Transport Cooperative (CBSTC), the operator of the John Hay Loop shuttle service.
“We are aware of the incident that occurred earlier at Camp John Hay. I am personally assessing the situation and have directed our teams to conduct a thorough assessment and investigation,” Reandi said.
The free electric bus ride was launched last July to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions in Camp John Hay.
