ILOILO CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved a new special economic zone in Iloilo.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto announced this week that the President signed Proclamation No. 1128 that declared several parcels of land in Mandurriao District here as an information technology (IT) park economic zone.
To be known as the Atria Gardens, the economic zone includes 4.8-hectares of land on Donato Pison Ave. in Barangay San Rafael.
The Atria Gardens in Iloilo that has been developed mostly by Ayala Land is one of the two economic zones approved by the President upon a board resolution from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). The other one is in Batangas.
“The new ecozones will bring economic opportunities closer to Filipinos,” said Recto.
The area has been developed by Ayala Land Inc. for more than a decade. It is where an outdoor mall, schools, a hospital, office buildings, and condo buildings are located.
With the special economic zone declaration, the IT Park in Iloilo is expected to create 2,200 new jobs and more than P500 million in new investments.
