ZAMBOANGA CITY - Hot pursuit operations are ongoing after an officer of the Philippine Coast Guard was shot dead while buying coffee in Ipil municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay province on Thursday evening, Jan. 15.
The victim was identified as Lt. Junior Grade Glennick Ytang, PCG sub-station commander of Ipil.
Investigation showed that Ytang had just left a coffee shop in Purok Sentro, Barangay Veterans Village with cups of coffee and was about to board his vehicle on the driver's side when he was repeatedly shot by a lone gunman.
Seven shell casings from a reported 9mm were recovered from the crime scene.
Police Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo, Zamboanga Sibugay police chief, has ordered a thorough and relentless pursuit of the suspect.
“We are exploring all possible angles,” Dasugo stated, adding that possible work and personal related motives are being explored.
“We will not rest until those responsible for this heinous act are put behind bars,” Dasugo added.
